Salmonella bacteria found in Darwin’s Natural Dog Food
Darwin’s Natural Pet products Natural Selections Chicken Recipe with Organic Vegetables for Dogs and Turkey Recipe with Organic Vegetables for Dogs have both been recalled. The FDA collected and analyzed unopened samples from these 2 lots in response to consumer complaints, and were concerned that people still have these products in their possession because they are sold and stored frozen.
They found traces of Salmonella in these two products. Salmonella is a very concerning bacteria because it causes illness and death in humans and animals, especially those who are young, old or have a weak immune system. Some signs of the infection can be diarrhea, fever, decreased activity levels, loss of appetite and abdominal cramps. Most recover from the infection on their own, but for others they need to be hospitalized. If your pet is showing signs of salmonella infection, contact your veterinarian immediately.
