Go Raw, LLC Recalls Quest Beef Cat Food

November 14, 2019 — Go Raw, LLC in Cottonwood, Utah is recalling all 2 lb. bags of frozen “Quest Beef Cat Food” due to possible Salmonella contamination. Salmonella is a bacterium that can potentially cause serious illness in humans, and can be especially concerning in children, elderly people or those with weakened immune systems. 

Salmonella can sometimes affect animals that come into contact with it, but humans are more likely to contract salmonellosis- the infection one comes down with when sick with Salmonella.

The contaminated products were nationally distributed to retail stores and have the following identification code: UPC 6-91730-17101-8, Lot N128.

The recall was launched after Go Raw, LLC was alerted by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture when a sample of frozen Quest Beef Cat Food tested positive for Salmonella bacteria. After being notified of this, Go Raw, LLC performed their own test which came back with a negative result.

No illnesses in connection to the affected products have been reported thus far.

The FDA explains that “Salmonella is not evenly distributed throughout a lot, which is why it could have been found on a small sample that the Minnesota Department of Agriculture took.”

Because the firm is committed to safety and quality, Go Raw, LLC is voluntarily recalling this product.

Pets with a Salmonella infection can exhibit symptoms such as lethargy, diarrhea, decreased appetite and vomiting. However, animals are more likely to be carriers of the bacteria rather than fall ill to it.

Symptoms of Salmonella in humans can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and fever. Rarer, more serious symptoms can include heart issues like endocarditis (an infection of the heart), arterial infections, arthritis and muscle pain.

If your pet or anyone else in your household is experiencing symptoms of salmonellosis, contact your veterinarian or physician immediately.

Although Healthy Spot does not carry Quest Beef Cat Food, we highly recommend that you either return the product for a full refund, or place it into a container and throw it away in a sealed trash bin. It’s also very important to thoroughly disinfect any areas of your home that the affected product may have come in contact with.
