November Pet Food Recalls

In the past couple of weeks, there have been various pet food recalls. We do not carry these brands, but to stay true to our mission and values, we are sharing all recalls to ensure our customers are well informed.

Elevated Levels of Vitamin D Found in Evolve, Sportsman’s Pride, and Triumph Dog 

On November 27, 2018, Sunishine Mills, Inc. has voluntarily recalled select products from Evolve, Sportman's Pride and Triumph Dog due to excessive levels of Vitamin D. 

Consuming high levels of Vitamin D can lead to serious health issues in dogs including renal dysfunction. Dogs that have consumed elevated levels of Vitamin D show symptoms of vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss.

You can find the products affected HERE. If you have bought any of the products mentioned, we advise to stop feeding it immediately. Consumers who have purchased any of the affected product should dispose of it or return it to the retailer for a full refund.

Elevated Levels of Vitamin D Found in Giant and Martin's Nature's Promise Dog Food 

On November 20, 2018, Giant Food Stores and Martin's Food Markets recalled a few lots of Nature's Promise Dog Food due to extreme levels of Vitamin D. No illnesses have been reported to date. 

Nature's Promise Chicken & Brown Rice Dog Food in the bag weights of 4, 14 and 28 pounds have been taken off the shelves. Please stop feeding and return if you have recently bought this recipe in any of the weights mentioned above. For more information, please click HERE.

Elevated Levels of Vitamin D Found in Abound Dog Food

On November 19, 2018, Harris Teeter recalled Abound Chicken and Rice Dog Food in their 4 lb and 14 lb bags due to excessive levels of Vitamin D. If you have purchased either of these items, please stop feeding it to your pet and return them to your local Harris Teeter store for a full refund. If your pet has consumed, please contact your veterinarian.

Elevated Levels of Vitamin D Found in Lidl's Orlando Brand Dog Food

On November 9th, 2018, Lidl USA voluntarily recalled specific lots of Orlando brand Grain Free Chicken & Chickpea Superfood Recipe Dog Food due to excessive levels of Vitamin D. 

If your pet has consumed the product being recalled by Lidl USA, we advise you to contact your veterinarian. You can find the lot numbers affected HERE that were manufactured between March 3, 2018 and May 15, 2018. If you have recently purchased this product and it contains the lot numbers mentioned, Lidl USA recommends to stop feeding and get rid of it immediately or return it to the nearest Lidl store for a full refund. 

Elevated Levels of Vitamin D Found in Nutrisca Dog Food 

On November 3^rd, 2018, Nutrisca of Saint Louis, Missouri, recalled one formula of Nutrisca dry dog food due to elevated levels of Vitamin D. Recipes include Nutrisca’s Chicken and Chickpea Dry Dog Food in the package sizes of four, fifteen and twenty-eight pounds. Three illnesses have been reported to date.

Nutrisca Dog Food was made aware of the contamination after three pet owners claimed that their pets got sick from Vitamin D toxicity after consuming Nutrisca’s Chicken and Chickpea Dry Dog Food. Bags affected have a Best by Date code of February 25, 2020 through September 13, 2020. If you recently bought this recipe with the package weight and Best by Date code mentioned above, Nutrisca Dog Food advises to stop feeding immediately or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Elevated Levels of Vitamin D Found in Natural Life Pet Products

On November 3^rd, 2018, Natural Life Pet Products of Saint Louis, MO, recalled their Natural Life Chicken and Potato dry dog food due to elevated levels of vitamin D. Three illnesses have been reported to date.

Natural Life Pet Products became aware of elevated levels of Vitamin D after receiving complaints from three pet owners of Vitamin D toxicity after their pet consumed the product. This led to an investigation that later revealed a formulation error that caused elevated levels of Vitamin D.

Bags affected have a Best by Date code of May 29, 2020 through August 10, 2020. If you have recently purchased this product and it contains the Best by dates described, Natural Life Pet Products instructs consumers to dispose of it immediately or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Potential Contamination of Listeria monocytogenes in G & C Raw Dog & Cat Food Products

On October 24^th, 2018, G & C of Versailles, Ohio, expanded their recall to include multiple brands of their dog and cat food products due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recall was in result of the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s routine sampling program, where they revealed that some of the finished products contained the bacteria. What is Listeria Monocytogenes? It’s pathogenic to humans that can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, or fever, and can even affect pets that consume it.

The products being recalled contain lot numbers that end in 022718 through 072018. If you recently bought a product from G & C and its lot number matches the ones mentioned, we advise you to stop feeding and return it to G & C Raw at 225 N.
